Learn to Draw an Alien

Follow along for a fun tutorial for an alien! Download a free PDF with the drawing steps from my free resources page HERE or at the bottom of this page.

Did you know…

UFOs and aliens are part of American folklore. The stories that we tell reflect our anxieties and beliefs of the era which they arise. The alien as we see here, came about in the 1950s, when there was a rise in UFO and alien stories in the US. As Americans were grappling with fears of communism, UFOs and aliens became a symbol of the unknown and potential danger. (Read more interesting facts about aliens here.)

Step-by-Step Tutorial

1

Use a pencil, so you can erase if you need to. Start with drop shape that is pointed down. This will be the head. Add two short lines down from it for the neck.

2

Add a long oval shape for the body.

3

Add lines on the bottom for legs and lines from the shoulders for arms. You can bend the arms and legs how you want.

4

Add sideways V-shapes to the bottom for feet and pointy shapes for hands.

5

Add two football or seed shapes for the eyes, a tiny nose and a mouth underneath them, and two curved lines for eye brows if you want them.

Your alien is ready and you can trace it with markers, but you can also give it some fun accessories.

6

Where is your alien going? What do they like? Add some fun accessories for your alien. You can get creative and have fun with it.

8

You can color your alien how ever you want. Often times we see light green colored aliens, so that’s what I picked here. But there is nothing to say that your alien can’t be pink, purple or polka dotted.

Done! You drew a fun alien! You can also find a tutorial for an UFO at the previous blog post.
